ESPLANADE TO ESPLANADE 2023

A Sunday morning event through our beautiful Esplanade and along our River Pathways… Run it, Walk it - Enjoy it!

Running and walking options everyone will appreciate:

Challenge yourself to a new distance or pick the distance you love. Bring the whole family, invite friends to join you or do it solo!  

Entry FeeS

This is a great local event and all our entry fees include a medal.

  • 21 km Run or Walk $35

  • 12 km Run or Walk $25

  • 3 km Run or Walk $5 (enter on the day only, cash only).

  • LATE FEE of an extra $10 will apply from Monday 16 October 2023. This will also apply to all entries on the day, except for the 3 km event.

Course Details

All distances start and finish at the Striders Clubrooms in the Esplanade. The courses all feature lovely parts of our River Pathways and include running over or near He Ara Kotahi Bridge.

This is a great community event with a Timing Clock at the finish line. We encourage you to come along with your family and friends and enjoy the finish line atmosphere. 

21KM COURSE

Starting at the Striders Clubrooms, the course will head out through the Esplanade and down to the Manawatū River Pathway. From here, 21K participants will head upstream under the Fitzherbert Bridge all the way down to Riverside Drive to the turnaround point. From here, they will return via the Manawatū River Pathway to the Fitzherbert Bridge, crossing the bridge on the left to head along Tennent Drive towards Massey. At the entrance to Massey, they will head under the road and along Dairy Farm Road, taking a slight detour down Poultry Farm Road to a turnaround point before heading back to the He Ara Kotahi Walkway and crossing the He Ara Kotahi Bridge. Once over the bridge, they’ll head left and head along the river to another turnaround before before heading back and going under the bridge before returning through the Esplanade to the Striders Clubrooms to finish.

12KM COURSE

Starting at the Striders Clubrooms, the course will head out through the Esplanade and down to the Manawatū River Pathway. From here, 12K participants will head upstream under the Fitzherbert Bridge to a turnaround point just past Albert Street. From here, they will return via the Manawatū River Pathway to the Fitzherbert Bridge, crossing the bridge on the left to head along Tennent Drive towards Massey. At the entrance to Massey, they will head under the road and along Dairy Farm Road, taking a slight detour down Poultry Farm Road to a turnaround point before heading back to the He Ara Kotahi Walkway and crossing the He Ara Kotahi Bridge. Once over the bridge, they’ll head left and go under the bridge before returning through the Esplanade to the Striders Clubrooms to finish.

3KM COURSE

Starting at the Striders Clubrooms, the course will head out through the Esplanade and down to the Manawatū River Pathway. From here, 3K participants will head downstream under the He Ara Kotahi Bridge, and then loop back around to Manawatū River Pathway and into the Esplanade back to the Striders Clubrooms.

Event Start TIMES

  • 08:30am 21 km Walkers & Run/Walkers (Expecting to take 2hr 45min+)

  • 9:30am 21km Runners (expecting a finish time of 2hr 30min or less)

  • 9:45am 12km Runners and Walkers

  • 10.00am 3km Runners and Walkers

  • We encourage 21km Runners and Run/Walkers expecting to take longer than 2 hours 45 min to use the 8.30am start.

  • IMPORTANT: There are no early starts for 21km Runners expecting to take less than 2 1/2 hours.

Online entries close 9pm Wednesday 25 October 2023.

We are also taking entries on the day at the clubrooms - CASH ONLY.

Please register with us on event day to collect your Event Bib.

You can collect your event bib from the clubrooms (Event HQ) which is open from 7.30am.    

EVENT HQ

Our event is based at our clubrooms, located in the carpark behind the Esplanade Cafe.

Toilets are available

You may leave your gear with us at event HQ to collect at the finish line. 

PARKING

There are many options nearby: Fitzherbert Ave, Near the Hockey Turf, in the Esplanade carparks, Along Park Road (and walk across the fields)

MEDALS

All distances receive a medal!

There is no prizegiving for this event. 

CHANGES TO REGISTRATION

REFUNDS AND TRANSFERS

Entry fees are non-refundable. You are welcome to transfer your entry to a friend or run/walk a shorter distance. (Or you can pay the difference in price to increase your distance).

HEALTH AND SAFETY

In the interest of providing a safe and enjoyable event experience for all entrants please take into account the following:

  • We are a non-smoking event. There is no smoking allowed on course, at event HQ, or the parking area.

  • Keep to the left of the course to allow people to pass on the right

  • Be courteous to your fellow participants at all times

  • Please obey instructions from race officials and volunteers at all times

  • Prams and Buggies are welcome – please be mindful of other participants

  • Strictly no dogs, bikes or scooters are able to accompany runners or walkers on the course. 

EVENT CANCELLATION POLICY

Please read this carefully before entering the event.

In the unlikely event of cancellation due to circumstances outside of our control, all entries will be automatically rolled over to the 2024 event. There will be no refunds given. 

RACE DAY RULES

  • Headphones are permitted but please make sure you can still hear marshals and people around you.

  • All runners and walkers must stick to the course.

  • Dogs - No dogs are allowed on the course and cannot be accompanied by cyclists, vehicles or non-entered competitors.

  • Bikes - No bikes allowed on the course. This is a safety issue.

  • Competitors enter at their own risk.

  • Have fun!
