Stage One

Mostly undulating with some good little climbs to keep you honest. First 200 metres is a steepish climb which brings you out onto a hilltop with a fantastic view of the city.

Begin at the woolshed and follow a well marked farm track belonging to the Dransfields. Track momentarily ends at a large pile of dirt 1.74k after the start but continues on ahead with a sharp right turn. At 2.3k are some macracarpa trees on the left with a gateway at the bottom of hill. Then through another gateway which takes you onto Harts Road which is sealed. Go to Carmichaels Mailbox on left of road and return to woolshed same way as you came.

Summary
A short but challenging and grunty start to the event. Bound to get your heart pumping but great views and plenty of variation.

Stage Two

This stage will be known to many as part of the Dam Block.

Begin at the woolshed and turn left into Kahuterawa Road. After 1.9k turn left into Green’s Road. A sharp climb up onto near Love’s House entrance at about 3.4k and then continue to the Tiritea Bridge, over the bridge and past the Gun Club to Hart’s Road. The distance to Harts Road from the start is 11.09k.

Continue back to the woolshed along Harts Road and along the same return route as stage one. 4.33k from Harts Road entrance to the finish at the woolshed.

Summary

Undulating all the way. Very few flat bits with two or three good climbs. On road all the way until leaving Harts Road near the end for the final 3k.

Stage Three

Along Kahuterawa Road from the woolshed. Distance to where seal ends is 4.75k, to Brown House 6.8k and to the Back Track is 7.7k.

Follow Back Track, which is very well marked, up to Scotts Road - distance of 4.092k for this section. Steady uphill climb most of the way, then turn left and keep to the left and come back to start of Back Track through the Pine Trees. Coming through the Pine Trees is a bit tricky but if you remember to keep to the left, follow the ridge and keep a barbed wire fence to your left you should not get lost. Distance from Scotts Road to Back Track is 2.078k.

Return back to the woolshed via Kahuterawa Road along the same way that you came.

Summary

A good way to finish the event. Flat and undulating, sealed and gravel road to start of Back Track. This track is in great condition and very well defined. The tricky bit will be coming back through the Pines. Just keep to the left and you should not get lost. Very steep downhill and a good test for the quads.
